Chamber Choir Audite
Jani Sivén, conductor
Many classical masterpieces have been composed in astonishingly short periods of time. This is likely the culmination of a longer, subconscious process, where the completed work flows effortlessly onto paper. Such was the case with Rachmaninoff’s All-Night Vigil, which was composed in just two weeks in 1915. Rachmaninoff drew freely from Orthodox liturgical music and likely composed his roughly hour-long All-Night Vigil with concert performance in mind. The work's extreme sonority makes it a classic in choral music.
This magnificent classic, rooted in the tradition of Orthodox choral music, will be performed by the EMO Ensemble and Chamber Choir Audite, conducted by Jani Sivén.
