Rules of the VocalEspoo’s children’s and youth choral competition
The International School Choir Competition is organised by Espoo Music Festivals Association and will be held on 4 June 2018.
Children and youth choirs of all sizes are eligible to take part in the competition: community choirs, church choirs, choirs formed by associations, class- and school choirs and music institution choirs etc. The competition series will be determined after the registration has closed. The series will be formed based on the mean age of the singers and types of choirs registered for the competition to create viable series.
Application is by filling in the form (see below) between 1 March 2018 and midnight (Finnish time) on 30 April 2018. The choirs will be accepted in order of application. The names of the accepted choirs will be posted on the competition website on 7 May 2018 and all the applicants will be informed by email.
The detailed competition schedule will be decided by a draw and posted on the competition website on 7 May 2018. The choirs will perform their competition programme to an audience and a jury on Monday 4 June 2018 at the Espoo Cultural Centre Louhi Hall. Should there be a large number of applicants, the final concert will be organized at Tapiola Hall at 6 pm. The jury will choose the choirs for the final concert. The jury will deliberate and announce the prize-winning choirs immediately after hearing all the competition performances.
Each choir’s total performance of repertoire of its own choice should last 8–15 minutes, including entering and leaving the stage. A microphone may be used for a solo, but otherwise the performance must be acoustic. Accompanying instruments are permitted, and there is no limit to their number, but the choir will be responsible for all the stage arrangements these require. The organiser will provide a concert grand piano. The jury will have the right to interrupt a performance should the time limit be exceeded, or to penalise a programme that is too short.

Failure to pay the participation fee will be regarded as a cancellation.
A total of €3,000 will be awarded in prizes as decided by the jury. Each participating choir will receive a diploma at the final concert. Choirs will also be sent written jury feedback after the competition.
