YL Male Voice Choir, Academic Female Choir Lyran & Tapiola Choir
Choral Director Pasi Hyökki
The Super Mixed Choir – that’s what composer Jouni Kaipainen named the combination of YL Male Voice Choir and Tapiola Choir when planning the composition Antiphona SATB for them. Since the world premier of the work in ChoralEspoo Festival 1992 these two superchoirs were heard together only a quartercentenary later in the memorial concert of Einojuhani Rautavaara, and after that to honour the Suomi100 – Finland100 celebrations in Savonlinna Opera Festival among others. For this concert they will be joined by the Academic Women’s Choir Lyran, representing Finland’s world renown female choirs.
The program of this concert mirrors traditional Finnishness – or at least what is thought to be traditional Finnishness – including both those beloved classics from Kuula and Rautavaara as well as more modern series specially composed for this choral cast by Jukka Linkola and Juuso Vanonen. The thought that persist through them all is the human life itself; light as the symbol of life and water as the manifestation of eternity. The unique instrument of children and adults alike has a sound that expresses this though for it’s own part.
