ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE FESTIVAL – PASI HYÖKKI
Pasi Hyökki (b. 1970, MA), Artistic Director of the VocalEspoo Festival, is a choral conductor and sopranista. His main work is as Artistic Director of the Tapiola Choir, the YL Male Voice Choir, the EMO Ensemble and the Talla Vocal Ensemble; the last two of these were founded by him. He can also be heard as a solo male soprano (sopranista).
With the EMO Ensemble, the Talla Vocal Ensemble and the Cantabile mixed choir, Pasi Hyökki has won numerous choral and ensemble competitions, and often the prize for best choral conductor. He actively records with all his choirs, also as editing producer. His most recent releases include a disc (On valo syttynyt ikkunaas) with the Tapiola Choir in spring 2013 and a disc and printed edition of the complete male-choir songs by Toivo Kuula with the YL Male Voice Choir.
Pasi Hyökki made his male soprano debut as the soloist in Handel’s Messiah in 2003 and gave his first solo recital at the Viitasaari Time of Music festival in summer 2004. On this latter occasion he premiered works by Seppo Pohjola, Perttu Haapanen and Sampo Haapamäki commissioned for the recital.
